At Soft Star we have been designing barefoot-like shoes to promote natural foot movement for over 25 years. When our customers started telling us they were running serious mileage in our moccasins and ramblers - we listened and designed the RunAmoc specifically for runners. Lightweight and flexible, the RunAmoc is essentially a leather glove for your foot with a wide toe box, leather uppers, and thin durable soles.
Because we custom make your pair just for you, you can personalize your order to specify the sole type: TRAIL or STREET. We have tested over 12 different types of Vibram® soling products and have selected the best based on the runner feedback. For excellent ground feel consider the 2mm "street" sole. For better traction on wet or rough surfaces while still retaining "pretty amazing" ground feel, you will love the 5mm "trail" sole.
The uppers on the RunAmoc are ultra-soft genuine suede. The shoes can be used either barefoot or with socks. This shoe is better suited for colder climates where the ventilation of the RunAmoc Lite is not desired.
The ankle closure is deceivingly simple: athletic laces integrated with an elastic band around the ankle to allow adjustability depending on your terrain, as well as the flexibility of the elastic to move with your foot and stay on snugly. Another benefit of the elastic is that once you have your shoe adjusted to the tension you prefer, you can slide them on or off in a hurry.
WARNING: Making the switch from traditional running shoes to minimal shoes or barefoot running should be eased into with some good research and advice from healthcare professionals to prevent injury. Running minimal/barefoot will naturally shift your stride to a lighter forefoot or mid-foot strike and will inevitably use new muscles in your feet, ankles and calves. Please do not just take off in them unless you already are a minimal footwear / barefoot runner type of guy/gal. You will be tempted to just take off (for sure) as they are FUN and you feel like a kid running in them... but you will most likely end up injuring yourself if you go at it full speed without prior conditioning. There is a lot of great advice on the Internet on how (and WHY) you want to transition to a more minimal shoe. It is worth your time to do some research and find a training plan that works for you and avoid throwing out your back or blowing your calf muscle.
Sizing Notes: RunAmocs are made in whole, unisex sizes. You can specify narrow or wider widths when you order if you provide additional measurements. Check out our sizing link on top of the page for detailed instructions. Please note the RunAmoc runs a little bigger than our other styles, so if in doubt between 2 sizes, it is best to go with the smaller size.

What our Customers are saying:
"I have to admit I was skeptical at first. I figured the shoes would fall right off, or would slide around so bad inside that I(would) blister, etc. But I was wrong. They're a hoot to run in. I've gradually moved to using them on a treadmill, to flat trail, to hilly trail, to the hilliest, muddiest, steepest trails in town; and I have to say it's an absolute blast to run in these."
